A creative neighbourhood bakery where natural sourdough breads and artisanal pastries bring authentic flavours to life.
Description
Located at 20 rue Jean‑Pierre Timbaud in Paris’s 11th District, Utopie Bakery was founded by former Ladurée artisans Sébastien Bruno and Erwan Blanche, who revitalized a declining shop through bold vision. Since opening, Utopie has earned a stellar reputation, including the 2024 Grand Prix for the best baguette in Paris.
The décor is raw yet refined, with wood and metal finishes, while an open bakery at the rear adds transparency and energy to the space. The core offering is centred on quality sourdough breads and long fermentations. Traditional baguettes sit alongside the signature Authentic, large, flat loaves sold by weight—with flavors like walnut or muesli—offering deep fermentation notes.
Pastries shine with sesame éclairs, apple turnovers, seasonal creations (green tea‑raspberry cheesecake, chocolate‑hazelnut entremets), and travel cakes (madeleines, financiers, cookies, lemon and chocolate poundcakes). A croissant priced at around €1 surprises by its quality.
The savory line includes well‑balanced sandwiches, salmon burgers, quiches and focaccias—all maintaining the bakery’s artisanal ethos. The staff is friendly and multilingual, with the founders frequently engaging with customers, contributing to a lively atmosphere. Even during busy hours, service remains efficient.
Its clientele is diverse: from bread aficionados and pastry lovers on a budget, to local residents, workers, and visiting foodies. Lines are common but attest to Utopie’s popularity and quality.
Fun fact: baker Xavier Netry won the 2024 Grand Prix for Paris’s best baguette by combining a natural sourdough base, extended fermentation and a hint of banana and lemon in his dough. He was named official supplier to the Élysée for a year.
