The Jardin d’Acclimatation

Summary

Experience a historic, family-friendly park set within a lush natural haven.

Description

Nestled on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne, the Jardin d’Acclimatation is a historic amusement park founded in 1860 by Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie. Originally designed to acclimatize exotic flora and fauna, it has evolved with time. Following a major renovation in 2018 funded by LVMH (€60–70M), the park now boasts 42 attractions across 18 hectares of verdant gardens.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of rides: mini roller-coasters like the Speed Rockets (up to 45 km/h), carousels, aviaries, educational farms, playgrounds, and puppet shows. Thrill-seekers can experience the new Défi du Dragon, a family-friendly coaster reaching 50 kph in an immersive Oriental-themed setting. Kids love pony rides, trampolines, splash zones, and mazes, while adults can relax in gardens, enjoy gourmet kiosks, and lounge on sunny lawns.

The atmosphere is welcoming and well-organized—a nature oasis with a festive spirit—primarily drawing Parisian families and international tourists . Easily reachable via metro line 1 (Porte des Sablons) or car (parking available), the park also features multilingual staff, accessibility for people with reduced mobility, vegan dining options, and souvenir shops.

Fun facts: during the Siege of Paris (1870), some of the park’s animals were consumed out of necessity . From 1877 to 1931, controversial “human zoos” were also part of the park’s history before it shifted to family entertainment.

For a full-day experience, the unlimited access pass is recommended, especially on weekends and school holidays. The park hosts around 500 annual events—nature workshops, exhibitions, themed festivals—ensuring a rich, engaging visit .
