Located in the heart of the Bois de Vincennes, the Paris Zoological Park is a modern and immersive experience, home to more than 180 animal species from across the globe.
Description
The Paris Zoological Park, also known as the Zoo de Vincennes, offers visitors a chance to travel around the world in one day. Reopened in 2014 after extensive renovations, it now boasts a completely redesigned environment focused on animal welfare and natural ecosystems.
Covering over 14 hectares, the park is organized into five biozones: Patagonia, Sahel-Sudan, Europe, Guyana, and Madagascar. Each zone replicates the native habitat of its resident animals, from lush rainforests to savannahs and rocky outcrops.
The zoo is home to over 1,000 animals representing 180 species, including giraffes, lions, wolves, lemurs, penguins, and manatees. One of the highlights is the massive tropical greenhouse, where monkeys leap across trees and tropical birds fly overhead.
An impressive feature is the Grand Rocher (Great Rock), a 65-meter artificial mountain that has become the park’s iconic symbol. Originally built in 1934, it was preserved during the renovation and remains an important part of the zoo’s visual identity.
Did you know? The Paris Zoo was the first in France to fully integrate animal behavior and enrichment practices into its design — ensuring animals engage with their environment naturally and healthily.
The zoo is family-friendly, accessible, and includes restaurants, picnic areas, gift shops, and educational exhibitions. Daily feeding sessions and animal talks enhance the experience for curious minds of all ages.
