Mains d’Œuvres – Artistic & Civic Hub in Saint‑Ouen

Summary

A vibrant artistic hub at the heart of Saint‑Ouen’s flea market, blending creativity, concerts and conviviality.

Description

Set in the former Valeo factory’s social and sports centre, Mains d’Œuvres is a 4,000 m² multidisciplinary cultural hub founded in 1998 and open to the public since 2001. The atypical space hosts exhibitions, concerts, theatre and dance performances, participatory workshops, artist residencies and social events.

Facilities include a 250‑seat concert hall with professional sound system, a 100 m² dance studio, a 450 m² gym, a 200 m² exhibition hall, two meeting/ conference rooms, creative studios and artist offices. The outdoor Cour des Myrtilles adds an urban garden vibe with seating, murals and a mini‑stage with a bar for informal events.

Year‑round programming includes alternative and electro concerts, contemporary dance and theatre, arts exhibitions, public workshops and training sessions. Music rehearsal and recording studios welcome amateurs and professionals daily from 10 am to midnight on weekdays and until 8 pm weekends.

The vibe is relaxed, creative and inclusive: attracting young, inquisitive audiences, local families, artists in residence and tourists exploring the nearby flea market. Civic and associative groups often gather here around shared events and debates.

Despite an arson event in 2010 and a high‑profile legal battle over its lease between 2014 and 2020 – supported by France’s Ministry of Culture – Mains d’Œuvres has remained a resilient cultural anchor in Saint‑Ouen.

Le Mo’Café offers light meals and seasonal dishes between €3–€12.50, open noon to evening on weekdays, also serving as a meeting point for artists. The venue is wheelchair‑accessible. Music studios are priced between €5/hour (solo walk‑in) and €16/hour, with instrument rental, secure storage and accessory sales available.

Access: Metro line 4 (Porte de Clignancourt), line 13 (Garibaldi), line 14 (Mairie de Saint‑Ouen); bus 85 (Paul Bert); Vélib stations nearby. Easily reachable by bike or car. Typically open Monday to Saturday, closed Sundays outside special events.
