Eiffel Tower Gardens

Summary

A historic and free green oasis at the foot of the Eiffel Tower—perfect for strolling, picnics, and discovering hidden viewpoints.

Description

At the heart of the Champ‑de‑Mars, the Eiffel Tower Gardens form a peaceful oasis, free and open 24/7. Originally designed for the 1889 World’s Fair, this green space actually predates the Eiffel Tower itself. In 2018, Paris entrusted VOGT Landscape LTD and Dietmar Feichtinger Architects with a full renovation, reviving its Belle‑Époque viewpoints, grottoes, ponds, and historic pathways.

Under the shade of around a hundred trees—including a 200‑year‑old plane tree planted in 1814, standing 20 m tall—and among 2,000 shrubs and 20,000 perennials, visitors can admire cascade‑adorned grottoes, two ponds home to carp, ducks, and herons, and a historic red‑brick chimney from former elevator machinery. Walking paths wind to newly unveiled viewpoints offering previously hidden angles of the Tower.

The space is perfect for everyone: families, couples, photographers, or anyone seeking a relaxing moment. Benches and lawns invite picnics, while tree‑lined paths complement a stroll through the Champ‑de‑Mars.

At night, the garden takes on a romantic, tranquil atmosphere, illuminated by the sparkling lights of the Tower—a captivating contrast between nature and monument .

Practical info: free entry, no ticket required, open year‑round, security checks at Refuznik and Paulhan entrances. Accessible via Bir‑Hakeim Metro (line 6), Trocadéro (line 9), RER C (Champs‑de‑Mars), and buses 42, 69, 82, 87. Restrooms nearby. The garden is eco‑conscious, with bins to maintain its cleanliness.

2025 update: from May 28 to Sept 15, the 1st‑floor terrace transforms into a suspended garden featuring plant sculptures, pergolas, novel lemonades, and seasonal snacks—adding a green extension above the gardens.
