Dalí Paris – Dalí Museum in Montmartre

Summary

Dive into Dalí’s surreal world with over 300 original artworks in the heart of Montmartre.

Description

Tucked away on charming Rue Poulbot, just off the lively Place du Tertre, Dalí Paris (formerly Espace Dalí) offers an intimate experience dedicated to the surrealist master. Opened in 1991 and revamped in 2018, this museum showcases the largest collection in France of original works by Salvador Dalí, featuring over 300 pieces: sculptures, engravings, lithographs, surrealist objects and furniture, curated by Beniamino Levi, friend and art dealer of Dalí
Paris.
The layout is thematic: exploring immortality, irrationality, erotic metamorphosis and science-infused visuals. Highlights include the long-legged elephant, the Mae West lip sofa, the lobster telephone, Venus with Drawers. With an included audio guide, visitors delve into Dalí’s psyche: dreams, atomic science, ancient myths, Freud, religion, alchemy—all fueling his genius.

The atmosphere is serene, far removed from the hustle and bustle at Montmartre’s summit. Gentle background music adds a dreamlike feel, while bright galleries showcase each work beautifully. Ideal for surrealism lovers, families, art students or curious minds, the visit encourages reflection—especially in front of Divine Comedy etchings, blending art and literature for all ages.

Beyond its permanent display, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions (holograms, optical illusions, Gala’s jewelry) and features augmented reality experiences developed with Gobelins school. Easily accessible via metro (Anvers L2, Abbesses or Lamarck‑Caulaincourt L12), buses 54/80, funicular (RATP included), or Montmartre’s small tourist train. There is no onsite parking, but several paylots within a 3-minute walk.
Open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM (last tickets dismissed at 6, closed Dec 24–25).

A fun fact: Dalí’s iconic melting clocks were inspired by a Camembert left out in the sun—an anecdote brought to life here via sculptural and graphic works.

Dalí Paris isn’t just a museum—it’s a poetic detour into a brilliant, whimsical mind, perfect for those craving surrealism in an intimate setting, away from the crowds.
